Child Protection

The school has a duty of care and the right to take reasonable action to ensure the welfare and safety of its pupils. If the school has cause to be concerned that a child may be subject to ill treatment, neglect or any other form of abuse, the school will follow the Child Protection Procedures, including referals to Social Services for further investigation.

Female Genital Mutilation (FGM)

Female Genital Mutilation is a form of child abuse and as such, is dealt with under the schools Child Protection/Safeguarding Policy. From 31 October 2015 onwards, regulated health and social care professionals and teachers in England and Wales have a mandatory requirement to report visually confirmed or verbally disclosed cases of FGM in girls under 18 to the police.

Call police on 101 if you have information about FGM.  In an emergency, dial 999.

Prevent Strategy

As part of Breadsall Hill Top Primary’s commitment to safeguarding and child protection we fully support the government's Prevent Strategy.

What is the Prevent Strategy?

The Prevent strategy is a government strategy designed to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism. It:

  • responds to the ideological challenge we face from terrorism and aspects of extremism, and the threat we face from those who promote these views

  • provides practical help to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism and ensure they are given appropriate advice and support

  • works with a wide range of sectors (including education, criminal justice, faith, charities, online and health)

All lateness and absences are recorded by the office. Reasons will be sought for all absence or lateness. Parents will always be informed of concerns around attendance and lateness at the earliest point. If attendance concerns continue the school will refer concerns to the Phil Meynell, Transform Attendance Officer.

Please take the time to read our policies and do not hesitate to contact the school should you have any questions.
