EYFS Curriculum Intent Statement
Our EYFS journey at BHTP begins with our 2 Year Old provision. During this stage of the learning, our 2 year old provision follows a child centred approach. Development matters birth to three is used by staff to support each child’s learning journey. The staff plan mini topics and activities based around the children’s current interests.
In EYFS, we follow the Early Years Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage, published in March 2014 by the DfES. This Framework specifies the requirement for learning and development in the Early Years and provides specific areas of learning we must cover in our curriculum. These areas are:
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
Physical Development
Communication and Language development
Literacy
Mathematics
Understanding the World
Expressive Arts and Design
The characteristics of effective learning under pin our EYFS ethos and curriculum. Playing and exploring, active learning and creating and thinking critically. At BHTP Childrens’ learning is enhanced by a variety of indoor and outdoor learning opportunities. Within EYFS there is a balance between adult focussed and child initiated tasks. This means that children are using and developing certain skills throughout the year on a daily/weekly basis.
In order to ensure that children actively apply their learning, firmly embed their knowledge, skills and understanding, FS2 children complete daily learning challenges. This provides the evidence alongside on going assessment both summative and formative in order to inform the end of year judgements against the EYFSP. This forms a firm foundation for appropriate learning behaviours which are continued to built on throughout BHTP.
