Computing Intent Statement

Computing: To create digitally empowered children

At Breadsall Hill Top, we believe in the importance of developing children’s computing skills and embedding these into part of their everyday toolkit for learning. We aim to equip the children with the foundational skills, knowledge and understanding to thrive in an increasingly digital world. We aim to create critical thinkers, active learners, knowledge constructors and highly skilled global citizens to participate fully in society and chase their dreams.

We care about;

  • Children learning how to use technology safely and responsibly and identifying where to go for help and support when they have concerns.
  • Children who see technology as a part of their everyday toolkit for learning
  • Children seeing themselves as digital programmers and developing their digital skills
  • Children who enjoy being able to present their learning in creative, digital ways and share it safely.
  • Children being able to think critically and make choices about the digital world and how to be safe online
  • Children that are leaders of their own learning.

We know that a rich and secure knowledge base is essential for our children to be able to think like a computer scientist and develop the key skills to achieve this.

This curriculum ensures that knowledge is:

  • Valued and specified
  • Well-sequenced
  • Taught to be remembered
  • Knowledge is a pathway to a skill. Teach knowledge, and skills are the end result.

The National Centre for computing Curriculum aims to enable young people to benefit from studying and learning about a computing curriculum. The units have been designed to build on learning through each unit and year group. Exploratory tasks are there to help foster a deeper understanding of a concept, encouraging pupils to apply their learning in different contexts and make connections with other learning experiences.

Our computing curriculum builds each year to provide the children will new opportunities and experiences to share and develop their knowledge.

Through our fortnightly enrichment sessions, the children can able to access different opportunities to explore digital skills such as coding and stop motion animation.
