At BHTP, we value physical learning and we believe a healthy child has the ability to achieve in PE, sport and life. We aim to provide the children with a range of opportunities and experiences that develop, support and challenge them to improve them both physically and mentally. PE teaching focuses on mastering basic movements, developing agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning. We use the REAL PE platform to deliver PE, it provides an easy to follow PE scheme of work. This platform provides a child centred approach that transforms how we teach PE to include, challenge and support for every child. Swimming is introduced to the timetable from Year 5. We encourage the children to take part in sports after school and within the wider community by involvement in our football team and Trust based competitions. Teachers set high expectations for all pupils and make reasonable adjusts to the curriculum to support the needs of all learners. They will use appropriate assessment to set ambitious targets and plan challenging work for all groups.
We work with the REAL PE scheme to enhance a well rounded programme of sport for all our children. This is runs from EYFS to Year 6 and contains the units:
Athletics (not in EYFS)
Dance
Gymnastics
Multi Skills including - Invasion Games, Bat and Wall Games and Striking and Fielding
Outdoor Activities
In order to be compliant with the National Curriculum, one year group - currently year 6 - complete a set course of swimming.
